Getting to Cancun

Cancun Tourism Information

Of course, the best way to get to Cancun is by air. Cancun International Airport is located only 9 miles from the middle of Cancun City and 6 miles from the hotel zone. This is the main airport for everyone that desires all that Cancun has to offer, the sun, the beaches, the historical and archeological sites, and the fun.

If you are wondering how long the flight will take from the major city closest to you here are the approximate times: Mexico City it will take 2 hours, New York City will take 6 hours, Miami will take 1 ½ hours, Los Angeles will take 8 hours, Vancouver, BC will take 10 hours, Toronto will take 6 hours, Frankfurt will take 19 hours, London will take 17 hours, and Paris will take 13 hours.

After you arrive at the Cancun airport you can either rent a car or take a taxi to your hotel. If you rent a car you will need to purchase Mexican auto insurance, it is mandatory. Taxis are the way that most tourist travel while in Cancun. Taxi's rates are regulated by the government, but it is best to ask your driver before you go what the cost will be. At your hotel, the rates are posted outside, but the taxi's themselves have no type of postings. To rent a car, you must be at least 25 years of age, hold a valid driver's license, and a major credit card. If you are planning on renting a car while in Cancun it is best to arrange this prior to leaving home, to ensure that a car is available. You can also get to Cancun by sea, if you are enjoying your own private cruise. Cancun has many marinas and ports where you can dock your yacht. The local marina's are Cancun Marina Club (9) 883-2165, Club Lagoon (9) 883-3109, Embarcadero Cancun (9) 883-3555, and the Terminal Playa Tortugas (9) 883-1735. The Mexican government does require that all boats check in with the Captain of the Port Office 9-880-1362. You can call them with any questions you may have.

One very nice marina is the Hacienda Del Mar. They do ask that you book 6 months in advance. Their limit is 130 feet and their operating depth is 8 feet. This marina is just 10 miles north of downtown Cancun. You can call them for more information at (561) 337-3707 from the United States, other countries should call (98) 80-1070.
